Cookies
You have not been shown a cookie banner on this site. This page explains why that is allowed, rather than an oversight.
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Irish law — the ePrivacy Regulations, SI 336/2011 — says a website must ask your permission before it stores anything on your device, with one exception: it need not ask for what is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for.
Everything this website stores falls inside that exception. There is nothing else to consent to, so there is nothing to ask you about.
Every cookie this site sets
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
the-crest-session |
Keeps track of your visit from one page to the next, so that a form you are part-way through filling in — a booking, an enquiry — is still yours when you submit it. | Until you close your browser, or two hours idle. |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Security. It proves a form was submitted from this website rather than by another site acting in your name. | The same as above. |
That is the complete list. Both are set by this website itself, both are deleted when you close your browser or shortly after you stop using the site, and neither is readable by anybody else.
What this site does not do
- No analytics that measures you. The site keeps counts, by the day, with nothing about who. It counts how often each page is opened, which websites sent visitors (the site's name, never the page you were on), and how often each sponsor's logo was shown and clicked. It does this without a cookie, without your address and without anything stored on your device, so two people reading a page are indistinguishable from one person reading it twice. No analytics company is given your visit.
- No advertising, and no tracking between sites. Nothing here follows you anywhere else. A sponsor's logo goes to the sponsor's website by way of this one, which is how the click is counted, and it passes nothing about you along.
- No third-party fonts. The typefaces load from this site. A font loaded from Google would hand Google your address on every page.
- No embedded map. The address and a link to directions do the same job without loading Google Maps onto the page.
- No social media buttons or trackers. Links to the club's Facebook or Instagram are ordinary links, and do nothing until you click them.
Videos
If the club has put a video on a page, it does not load until you press play. Until then, nothing has been requested from YouTube or Vimeo and they know nothing about your visit.
Pressing play loads their player, and at that point they may set their own cookies and will know that you watched. That is your choice to make, which is why it is behind a button rather than happening while you scroll past.
Match alerts
If you press Get alerts, your browser keeps a registration for this site so the club can tell your phone when a match is off. That is stored on your device because you asked for it, and it is the alert you asked for, so it needs no separate permission. It holds no name, no email and nothing about who you are. Press the same button to turn it off, or remove the site's notifications in your browser.
Turning them off
You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. This site will mostly still work, but forms will stop working — the security cookie is what proves a form was submitted by you — so you would not be able to make a booking or send an enquiry.
